#476 new defect

Python3 compatibility

Reported by: Frank Siegert Owned by: Andy Buckley
Priority: blocker Milestone: Perfection

Keywords: Cc:

Description

Currently Rivet's (and Yoda's) build system and python scripts/interface are not compatible with Python3.

A repo which is working with Python3 can be found at

https://yoda.hepforge.org/hg-private/python3/ https://rivet.hepforge.org/hg-private/python3/

These are not yet backwards-compatible with Python2. We need to decide which Python 2.x version we require, and then add the corresponding compatibility bits (e.g. with from __future__).

Currently, the discussion looks like 2.6 will be an acceptable minimal requirement:

  • SL6 has 2.6.6
  • ATLAS uses >=2.7(?)
  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS has 2.7
  • Debian stable (Wheezy) has 2.7

That should provide a lot of __future__ features already.
